About Indianapolis Concerts

It might be best known for the Indy 500, but Indianapolis is as great a city for music lovers as it is for racing fans. Many famous musicians have come from the state of Indiana: Michael Jackson, David Lee Roth, Axl Rose, and many others were all born in the state.

The Indianapolis Pacers play at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, which also serves as Downtown Indianapolis’s major concert venue. The venue opened in 1999 and held its first concert in 2001— Indiana-born Janet Jackson played the first show. Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Paul McCartney, and Cher have all played at the arena in the past.

The Vogue Nightclub in the Broad Ripple cultural district is one of Indianapolis’s most historic concert venues. The Vogue opened in 1938 as a movie theater (the first air-conditioned movie theater in Indiana!) and showed films through the 1970s. After a short stint as a theater for adult films, the building was converted into Indianapolis’s premier nightclub on New Year's Eve 1977. Artists from a wide range of genres have played at the Vogue. Some of the more famous ones include The Ramones, Johnny Cash, Ice Cube, the Dave Matthews Band, and Rihanna.

During the warmer months, the Klipsch Amphitheatre—located just outside the city in nearby Noblesville—is Indiana’s premier outdoor concert venue. Its pavilion has 6147 seats, and there’s room for 18,000 more people on the lawn.

Most events at the Vogue will only admit guests who are 21 years old or older, so plan your night accordingly.

If you have a lawn ticket to a show at Klipsch, you can bring a lawn chair or a blanket to sit on. The venue also rents lawn chairs, so that’s an option if you don’t want to carry your own.
