About Chicago Concerts
“Chicagoland” Metropolitan area has the third largest population in the US and is one of the most visited cities in the country. With that much activity, it’s no surprise that Chicago is a major destination for touring concerts. Chicago is also the home of major music festivals like Lollapalooza, Riot Fest, Pitchfork Music Festival, and the Chicago Blues Festival.
The United Center is the home arena for the NBA’s Chicago Bulls and the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks, and it’s the city’s premiere arena for major artists on tour. The stadium opened in 1994, replacing the old Chicago Stadium. In terms of size, it is one of the largest indoor arenas in the US, and it has a capacity of over 23,000 for concerts. The building’s acoustics are designed to amplify the noise-level. In the past, the United Center has hosted artists like Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, and U2.
Chicago is also bursting with smaller venues, many of which have a rich history in the local music scene. There are venues like the Aragon Ballroom, which fits 5000 fans and has seen concerts from Metallica and Green Day in the past and was the site of Nirvana’s last concert in Chicago. The venue has been around since 1926 and was a popular place for traditional ballroom dancing until a fire in the late 1950s.
Some of Chicago’s other major concert spots include Concord Music Hall, the Bottom Lounge, Allstate Arena, Metro Chicago, and The Empty Bottle.
