About Shows in Houston

The arts are thriving in Houston: the city has resident companies in all of the performing arts, and its theater district is the second largest in the country in terms of its number of seats. The district boasts a number of excellent venues where you can see a live show.

The Alley Theatre is one of the theater district’s smaller venues. It consists of two separate theaters, the Hubbard and the Neuhaus, which both have seating capacities of under 100. The Alley has its own performing arts company and strives to bring original theater to the Houston area. The Alley, which originally opened in 1968, was extensively renovated in 2015. Some plays from

Houston’s major venue for Broadway shows is the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. The Hobby Center doesn’t have the age and history of many other cities’ famous theaters, but it makes up for it with its modern beauty and functionality. The 2650 seat Sarofim Hall is designed to have ideal acoustics to make Broadway musicals sound as good as possible. It is known for its celestial ceiling display with fiber-optic stars that mimic the night sky in Texas.

The Houston Ballet is the fourth-largest professional ballet company in the country and performs out of the Wortham Theater Center. The building opened in 1987 and is famous for its glass entry archway. The ballet primarily performs at the 2405 seat Brown Theater.

What’s the best place to catch a show in Houston?

Even if you wouldn’t normally think of spending a night at the ballet, you should consider seeing the Houston Ballet at the Wortham Theater Center. The Hobby Center is also a stunning venue, and its modern architecture sets it apart from the theaters you would find in other cities.
