Heading to a show at Madison Square Garden but not sure if you can bring your bag inside? And what about that pesky laptop for all those folks coming straight from the office? Let’s take a deep dive into the MSG bag policy.
Straight from the horse’s mouth: “To help ensure that everybody can enjoy an unforgettable and safe experience, we strongly discourage guests and employees from bringing unnecessary bags, particularly backpacks, into our venues. All bags will be subject to thorough screening, including the use of x-ray screening where available, which can delay entry. Guests and employees who do not have a bag can take advantage of our No Bag Express Lines.” In general, a good rule of thumb is to bring a bag that would fit under your seat and nothing too oversized.
Laptops are allowed but will be subject to the same search as your bags.
There are no lockers located in the actual venue, but Schwartz Luggage & Storage (located just blocks away) offers a very affordable solution–and they take walk-ins.
Here is what you should leave at home or store in a locker before entering Madison Square Garden:
*Video Recording equipment (monopods, tripods, selfie sticks, audio recording devices and professional cameras with telephoto or zoom lenses)* Weapons/Firearms/Knives* Laser Pens* Pepper Spray/Mace* Signs and Banners* Alcohol* Outside Food & Beverages* Glass, Cans, Aluminum Bottles* Hoverboards/Skateboards
For folks with medical needs or who are utilizing the venue’s disabled services, please call the Guest Relations Department at 212.465.6225 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to set up alternate accommodations.
Overall, the bag policy at MSG is pretty lenient compared to other large venues. But for those looking to get inside quick and hassle-free, the best move would be to opt for a small bag that only holds the essentials. Check out our full Madison Square Garden venue guide here.
