Taylor Swift just answered one Taylor Swift mystery — and immediately gave fans four new songs to think about.
One day after announcing “Patient Zero,” Swift revealed The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, an expanded edition of her record-breaking 2025 album arriving Friday, Sept. 25, 2026. The project adds four previously unreleased songs: “Patient Zero,” “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon.”
That changes the picture significantly from Swift’s initial “Patient Zero” reveal. The single is not a standalone release or the confirmed beginning of TS13. Instead, it is track 13 on a 16-song version of The Life of a Showgirl, extending an album era that Swifties had good reason to think was already complete.
Here’s everything confirmed about Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, the four new songs, how to preorder or pre-save the release and what the expansion could mean for whatever comes next.
The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore is an expanded edition of Swift’s 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl.
The original album was released Oct. 3, 2025. Its first week generated 4.002 million equivalent album units in the United States, the largest total recorded since Luminate began tracking music sales in 1991. It also became Swift’s 15th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200.
Rather than moving directly into a completely new era, Swift has returned to the Showgirl sessions with four more songs.
She explained in her Sept. 23 announcement that she traveled to Sweden to celebrate the album’s reception with Max Martin and Shellback, her primary collaborators on the project. The trip was initially meant as a chance to reflect, but the trio ended up back in a studio writing new music.
Swift described the songs as being created out of gratitude for fans’ response to the original album.
Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore will be released Friday, Sept. 25, 2026.
That is the same date “Patient Zero” was already scheduled to arrive as a single. Swift announced the expanded album less than 24 hours after revealing “Patient Zero,” turning what initially looked like a one-song release into a much larger continuation of the Showgirl era.
Swift says The Encore is available to preorder and pre-save now. Digital preorders are also being offered through her website and major streaming platforms.
The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore contains the original album’s 12 songs followed by four new tracks:
“The Fate of Ophelia”
“Elizabeth Taylor”
“Opalite”
“Father Figure”
“Eldest Daughter”
“Ruin the Friendship”
“Actually Romantic”
“Wi$h Li$t”
“Wood”
“Cancelled!”
“Honey”
“The Life of a Showgirl” featuring Sabrina Carpenter
“Patient Zero”
“Cleveland!”
“Pink Clouding”
“Babylon”
The placement of “Patient Zero” is particularly notable: Swift’s newly announced single is officially track 13 on the expanded album. The other three new songs follow it to close the project.
Swift has not yet explained the stories behind “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding” or “Babylon,” so theories about their lyrics should remain theories until the songs arrive.
“Patient Zero” was the first piece of The Encore puzzle to be revealed.
Swift announced the song on Tuesday, Sept. 22 after a countdown on her website reached zero. Her social profiles had also begun swapping the letter “o” for zeroes, including the Life of a Showgirl-connected phrase “And, baby, that’s sh0w business f0r y0u.”
At the time, Swift did not say whether “Patient Zero” belonged to an existing album, an expanded project or something entirely new.
We have that answer now.
“Patient Zero” is the first new song on The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore and sits immediately after the original 12-song tracklist.
The title’s meaning remains unknown. Swift has not released lyrics or publicly explained what “Patient Zero” refers to, so interpretations involving relationships, fame, influence or other themes remain speculative until the track is released.
Swift also released separate physical editions of “Patient Zero” ahead of the full Encore announcement.
Her official store listed three $3.99 collector’s CD editions: the standard “Patient Zero” recording, an acoustic version and a piano version. Each features its own double-sided cover. The original preorder window was listed through Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 1:59 p.m. ET while supplies lasted.
The acoustic and piano editions mean fans will eventually have at least three versions of the song to compare.
For The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore itself, Swift says the expanded project is available to preorder and pre-save ahead of its Sept. 25 release.
It certainly appears that the rollout was built to lead fans back to The Life of a Showgirl rather than away from it.
Before “Patient Zero” was announced, Swift altered wording already associated with the Showgirl era instead of unveiling completely separate branding. That connection initially made an expanded version of the album one of the clearest theories surrounding the single.
There was an even more direct clue hiding in plain sight.
Page Six reported that Swift’s “Opalite” music video, released earlier in 2026, contains a background poster reading “Patient For The Encore.” In retrospect, the phrase connects both the “Patient Zero” title and the name The Encoremonths before either was officially announced.
What looked like a brand-new mystery on Sept. 22 was therefore an extension of an album campaign that had been leaving clues for considerably longer.
Not based on anything Swift has announced.
Before The Encore was revealed, “Patient Zero” prompted immediate speculation that the song could be the beginning of Swift’s 13th studio album. The original draft of this story reflected that uncertainty because Swift had not announced a deluxe edition, new album or tour alongside the single.
The Sept. 23 announcement now gives “Patient Zero” a confirmed home: The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.
That does not tell us when TS13 will eventually arrive. It simply means fans no longer need TS13 to explain these four particular songs.
For now, Swift is adding a new chapter to album No. 12 rather than officially beginning album No. 13.
The Encore does not provide a confirmed connection to Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version).
There is still one important date approaching, however: Oct. 24, 2026 will mark 20 years since Swift released her self-titled debut album.
Swift previously said after regaining ownership of her original masters that she had fully re-recorded her debut album and was happy with how it sounded, leaving open the possibility that the project could eventually have its own moment.
The 20th anniversary therefore remains noteworthy, but nothing in the Encore announcement establishes that a debut re-recording will be released in October.
The same caution applies to Reputation. The Encore is clearly tied to The Life of a Showgirl, not a newly announced Taylor’s Version project.
Swift’s unusually busy release week is not over once The Encore arrives.
The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards take place Sunday, Sept. 27, only two days after the expanded album drops. Swift is set to receive the ceremony’s inaugural Artist Director Honors, recognizing her work directing music videos and other visual projects.
That makes the VMAs an obvious place to watch for the next stage of the Encore rollout, whether that means a “Patient Zero” performance, music video or additional context surrounding the new material.
None of those possibilities has been confirmed, however. The only announced development right now is the Sept. 25 release of The Encore and its four additional tracks.
There is still no new Taylor Swift tour announcement connected to The Encore.
That distinction matters. Four additional songs give Swift even more post-Eras Tour material that has never been performed as part of a dedicated tour, but a new album edition does not automatically mean stadium dates are coming.
Swift’s original Life of a Showgirl era also arrived without an accompanying tour announcement. The Eras Tour concluded in December 2024, and the initial “Patient Zero” reveal did not include dates, ticket registration, presales or an onsale schedule.
The Encore makes the live-show question more interesting because Swift now has an expanded 16-song album to draw from. It does not answer it.
Until Swift announces concert dates herself, fans should treat any supposed Taylor Swift 2026 or 2027 tour schedule as unconfirmed.
There may not be a new Taylor Swift tour yet, but fans can make sure they are ready if that changes.
Visit the Taylor Swift tickets page on SeatGeek and use the heart icon to track the artist. Tracking Taylor Swift can help you stay on top of newly announced events and ticket updates without having to constantly search for a tour that does not exist yet.
For now, the next major date is Friday, Sept. 25.
That is when the curtain rises again on The Life of a Showgirl with “Patient Zero,” “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon.” And considering Swift managed to hide the phrase “Patient For The Encore” in plain sight months before the announcement, fans may want to listen — and look — very closely when all four songs arrive.
