How much does it cost to propose at an MLB ballpark? Prices for all 30 teams

Some baseball games disappear into the middle of a long season. Others become the kind of night a couple retells for decades.

A proposal at the ballpark can do that. A baseball game already comes with a crowd ready to celebrate alongside complete strangers. Once the team gets involved, with a scoreboard message, a private tour or a full proposal package, the cost can range from a modest add-on to a serious event budget.

As the Official Ticket Marketplace of MLB, we reviewed every team’s policy to see which clubs sell scoreboard messages, which teams offer private proposal experiences and which organizations publicly rule them out. The result is a 2026 snapshot of what it actually costs to get the ballpark involved.

Do you have to pay to propose at an MLB game?

No. There is generally nothing stopping a fan from proposing from their seats during an MLB game without purchasing anything special from the team. Buy the tickets, bring the ring, pick your moment and the proposal itself does not have to cost more than the rest of the night at the ballpark.

You usually only have to pay if you want the club involved.

That can mean a scoreboard message, a private ballpark tour, a field-access proposal or a more elaborate package with extras. It is also important not to assume that every paid option is the same. Some teams sell only a general celebratory message that could work for a proposal. Others offer a dedicated marriage-proposal package. A few explicitly do not allow proposal requests through their public message program.

Before making plans, confirm the requirements and inclusions directly with the club. At several parks, the message runs on a secondary board rather than the main videoboard, and some proposal packages have to be booked weeks in advance.

MLB proposal prices for every team

Publicly listed team-involved options still vary widely across the league. At the low end, the Athletics sell a $25 scoreboard message during their 2026 season at Sutter Health Park. At the high end, the Mets charge $2,500 for an in-game proposal, while Yankees private packages begin at $2,000.

Prices and availability can change by season, game, and package type. In many cases, tickets are sold separately unless the team specifically includes them.

The cheapest MLB ballparks for a proposal

For fans who want a message displayed by the team without spending hundreds, the bottom of the list isn’t super daunting.

The Athletics have the cheapest public option we found at $25, followed by the Pirates at $40. The Marlins, Reds, and Royals all stay at $55 or below, depending on the exact option and game date. Detroit remains inexpensive at $75, and Colorado hits the even $100 mark.

That does not mean every one of those teams is offering a full-service proposal package. In several cases, the lower price is simply the cost of putting the message on a board. It usually does not include photography, flowers, private access, or special seating. For a couple that just wants the moment displayed in public, though, that can be enough.

The most expensive MLB ballpark proposals

The priciest options are the ones that move beyond a simple message between innings.

The Mets now cover a wider range than most teams in this group, with non-gameday packages starting at $500 and in-game proposals priced at $2,500. That top in-game price puts the Mets above every other publicly confirmed MLB option in this exercise.

The Yankees are next, with private proposal packages starting at $2,000. Atlanta and Washington both reach $1,500 at the high end of their public offerings, while Philadelphia comes in at $850 for its in-game engagement package.

A second tier sits just below that. The White Sox can reach $750 for rivalry-series proposal dates. The Cardinals charge $700 for their scoreboard engagement tour at Busch Stadium. The Twins list a $549 premium post-game proposal at home plate, while the Rays and Astros both start at $500 for proposal-specific experiences.

Which MLB teams do not offer proposal packages?

The Diamondbacks say proposal experiences are not offered through its scoreboard message program. The Orioles sell public scoreboard surprises, but those are framed around birthdays and anniversaries rather than proposals. The Blue Jays are the most direct of the group, as its Jays Care videoboard page explicitly bars prom and wedding proposals. 

The Angels, Guardians and Rangers are also included here because their current public message programs do not confirm proposal-specific options.

How to plan an MLB ballpark marriage proposal

The first question has nothing to do with price. Make sure your partner would actually enjoy a public proposal at an MLB stadium.

A packed ballpark can make the moment feel huge in the best possible way, but the same crowd can also make it feel exposed if they would rather have something quieter. If the public version fits, make sure you know exactly where the message will appear. That matters more than people think. Some parks use the main videoboard, some use a ribbon board, and some have seating areas with poor sightlines to the display.

It is also smart to think through the logistics instead of focusing only on the proposal itself. Confirm the inning or time window, save the team contact information, and build in some flexibility in case of rain, delays, or a faster-moving game than you expected.
