The current version of the Ottawa Senators joined the NHL in 1993 and first made the playoffs in their fifth season. They won their first playoff series in 1998, defeating the Washington Capitals in the first round before bowing out to the New Jersey Devils in round two.
Despite many division titles and strong regular season performances, the Senators had little postseason success. They finally reached the Eastern Conference Final in 2003. They lost, however, to the New Jersey Devils (who ended up winning the Stanley Cup), and the finish was disappointing because the Senators had finished in first place after the regular season.
In 2007, the Senators finally went on the deep playoff run their fans had been waiting for. With a star-studded top line of Dany Heatley, Daniel Alfredsson, and Jason Spezza, and with goalie Ray Emery catching fire at just the right time, the Senators reached their first Stanley Cup Final. In the three series before the Final, the Senators lost just three times. In the Final, however, they faced the Anaheim Ducks and struggled to beat Anaheim’s top-tier defense. The Senators lost the series in five games.
The 2016-17 Senators surprised the hockey world by making a run to the Eastern Conference Final and finishing just one game away from making the Stanley Cup Final. A heroic performance from captain Erik Karlsson, who was playing on an injured ankle, propelled the Senators past the Bruins and Rangers in the first two rounds. The Sens were eventually eliminated after the Penguins scored in overtime of Game 7 in the Eastern Conference Final. Karlsson, a defenseman, had 18 points in 19 playoff games despite his injury.
The NHL is split into an Eastern Conference and a Western Conference. Both conferences are made up of two divisions. The Senators play in the Atlantic Division of the Western Conference. The top three teams from each division automatically qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Both conferences also send two wild card teams to the playoffs. 16 teams—eight from both conferences—make the playoffs.
There are four rounds in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The winner of each round is decided by a best-of-seven series. The first two rounds of the playoffs pit division rivals against each other and give wild card teams a chance to pull off an upset.
Round 3 is the Conference Final. The winners of the Eastern Conference Final receive the Prince of Wales Trophy, and the winners of the Western Conference Final are awarded the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl.
The winners of the Eastern Conference and Western Conference Finals face each other in the Stanley Cup Final.

Buying Ottawa Senators postseason tickets isn’t just about attending another game—it’s about experiencing something bigger. Here’s what makes postseason special compared to the regular season, and why it’s worth securing tickets early:
Higher stakes and intensity: Postseason Senators games are when every action counts. The pressure is on, the matchups more meaningful, and the atmosphere electric. If you want to see critical plays, clutch moments, and possibly history being made, this is where it happens.
Scarcity and urgency: There are fewer postseason games, and demand shoots up fast. Premium seats fill up quickly. Buying tickets early means better choice in seating, avoiding inflated resale prices, and locking in your spot before the buzz drives them higher.
Exclusive perks and priority: Ticket holders often get extras that regular-season attendees don’t always get: priority access to purchase playoff tickets (especially if you’re a season-ticket or membership holder), exclusive merchandise, special events, themed game nights, or upgraded amenities (parking, entrance, etc.).
Memorable atmosphere and fan energy: The crowd is more invested, the media presence greater, and the tension more palpable. Postseason Senators games tend to be more electric—fans are louder, anticipation is higher, and the emotional payoff is bigger.
Opportunity to witness defining moments: These are the Ottawa Senators fans talk about for years. Comebacks, championships, career highlights—postseason is when legacies are built. If you want to be there for those moments, this is your chance.
Better value in some cases: Even though the tickets might cost more, when balanced against what you get (intensity, perks, memorable experience), many fans find postseason Senators tickets fetch greater value per dollar compared to regular season games, especially when you consider resale value or experiential payoff.
If the Ottawa Senators postseason game is rained out, either your ticket remains valid for the rescheduled event, or you get a full refund if it’s canceled. SeatGeek keeps you updated every step of the way and ensures you’re always protected.
