About Wednesday Tickets

Wednesday was formed in Asheville, North Carolina in 2017. It began as a solo project of Karly Hartzman, who was then studying photography at the University of North Carolina Asheville. She had been absorbed in the local DIY and punk scenes growing up, making fanzines and trying out instruments, but it was after seeing the experimental trio Palberta live that she really felt inspired to pick up guitar more seriously. Soon after starting the project, multi-instrumentalist Daniel Gorham joined Hartzman and they recorded the debut album yep definitely (2018) as a duo. Over time, more members joined (in particular around 2020) to round out the sound: Alan Miller on drums, Xandy Chelmis on pedal steel, and others.

Their style fuses elements of shoegaze, indie rock/noise rock, and alt-country, with Hartzman’s lyrics often focusing on life in the American South, personal history, and small-town memories. After yep definitely, they released I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone in 2020 to positive critical reception, then Twin Plagues in 2021, which marked a more expansive, full-band sound and sharpened songwriting.

Some of their key career highlights include Rat Saw God (2023), which gained widespread acclaim, helping cement their reputation as one of the more emotionally rich and distinctive voices in modern indie rock. They’ve performed on national television (notably making their TV debut with “Elderberry Wine” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert) and have shown steady growth in visibility. Their most recent album, Bleeds (set for release September 19, 2025), indicates further evolution: more concise songwriting, greater immediacy, and a refining of their sonic palette.

Who is Wednesday?

Wednesday is an American alternative rock / indie band from Asheville, North Carolina, founded in 2017. The group is fronted by Karly Hartzman (vocals, guitar), and also includes Alan Miller (drums), Xandy Chelmis (pedal steel), Ethan Baechtold (bass), and MJ Lenderman (guitar, backing vocals) — though Lenderman has stepped back from touring since early 2025. Their sound blends elements of shoegaze, noise rock, and alt-country, with emotionally vivid lyrics often rooted in Southern life, memory, and small-town landscapes.

They began as Hartzman’s solo project; soon after she started writing songs, multi-instrumentalist Daniel Gorham joined her and they recorded their first album yep definitely (2018) as a duo. Over the next few years, the lineup expanded (adding Miller, Chelmis, and bass players), and MJ Lenderman became a core creative voice in later albums (though now not touring).

What is Wednesday's latest album?

Wednesday's most recent record is Bleeds, released on September 19, 2025 via Dead Oceans. It is their sixth studio album. The record was produced by longtime collaborator Alex Farrar at Drop of Sun studios in Asheville.

Bleeds was preceded by singles such as “Elderberry Wine,” “Wound Up Here (By Holdin On),” and “Pick Up That Knife.” One notable change for this album is that MJ Lenderman has announced he will no longer tour with the band — though he remains a creative and recording member. To fill his touring role, Jake Pugh has joined for the live lineup. Critical reaction suggests Bleeds continues Wednesday’s blend of lush, dreamy textures and narrative lyricism, with sharpened immediacy and emotional weight.
