After increasingly successful runs at the Ars Nova theater and in the Meatpacking District, among other places, Pierre, Natasha & The Great Comet of 1812 hurtled onto Broadway’s Imperial Theatre in November 2016. Acclaim came quickly from all corners. “It is both the most innovative and the best new musical to open on Broadway since Hamilton, and an inspiring sign that the commercial theater can continue to make room for the new,” wrote the New York Times’ Charles Isherwood in his Critic’s Pick review of the play. The Great Comet was the darling of the 71st Tony Awards in June 2017, earning a season-best 12 nominations, including Best Actor in a Musical for Josh Groban as Pierre and Best Actress in a Musical for Denée Benton as Natasha.
