The world lost a talented singer and musician when Freddie Mercury passed away in 1991, but the band Queen plays on. 19 years after the original band members performed for the last time on tour in 1986, the band reemerged with a guest lead singer. After starting the band in 1970, Queen has enjoyed a popularity that has spanned 5 decades and shows no signs of slowing down. The band has been a trailblazer from the start and has accrued a number of accolades, including holding the honor as the first band, rather than just an individual, to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004. Queen was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, 10 years after Freddie Mercury’s tragic death. The group also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as a band in 2002.
