Tip 1: Wait until a week or two before the game to buy tickets. On average, NFL fans pay 29 percent less when they buy tickets within two weeks of a game compared to a month or more ahead of time. However, there are caveats. If it’s a popular game there might be less inventory available, so finding your perfect seat could be harder. Waiting until the last minute to buy is a great option for folks traveling solo or in a small group, but if you’re looking for tickets for a large group or an odd number of people, it might be better to buy sooner.

Tip 2: Check out the opponent. If you want to see your local team play, then keep a close eye on the schedule, as prices can vary widely depending on who is the opposing team. Teams with a national following (Cowboys, Steelers) and teams that are successful (Eagles, Patriots) tend to drive up prices more than the teams that have struggled as of late.

Tip 3: Compare tickets by value instead of price. If you’re operating on a budget, finding the cheapest possible tickets to just get in the door may be your only choice. But those who are able to spend a little extra should attempt to find the best value.

For example, you may be able to find tickets that cost $10 more, but are 20 rows closer to the field. Or instead of buying tickets in the end zone, for $10 more you might be able to sit along the sideline near midfield. We at SeatGeek developed a tool for this called Deal Score, which analyzes thousands of ticket listings and rates the best bargains. Look for the green dots on our maps to signify a great value so that you know you’re getting the most bang for your buck.
