About ALDS Tickets

For much of baseball history, there were only four teams in total that qualified for the playoffs – two from the American League, and two from the National League. The playoffs would start with the ALCS and NLCS, and those series would lead into the World Series. It was extremely difficult to make the playoffs at all, and the postseason was rather short.

Beginning in 1995, the playoff field was expanded, and the Division Series round was added. At that point, four teams made the playoffs from each league, as each of the three division winners qualified, along with a wild card. The new format expanded the length of the playoffs, and most fans would agree the month of October was improved as a result.

The best ALDS ever played just may be the first one ever played. The inaugural ALDS featured the New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners. It was Seattle’s first trip to the postseason in franchise history, after having defeated the California Angels in a one-game playoff to claim the AL West crown.

This series started with the Yankees taking the first two games at home before heading west to Seattle. The Mariners won the next two to even the series, and the decisive game five went to extra innings. Ace starting pitcher Randy Johnson was called in out of the bullpen for the Mariners, who fell behind by a run in the 11th. In the bottom of the 11th, Joey Cora and Ken Griffey, Jr. both reached base before an Edgar Martinez double scored two and finished the series. There have been many great ALDS moments over the years, but this first series may be the best of all.

One of the most memorable plays in baseball history also took place during the ALDS, and that too involved the Yankees. On October 13, 2001, in Game 3 of the ALDS between the Yankees and Oakland A’s, New York shortstop Derek Jeter ran across the field and “flipped” a ball to catcher Jorge Posada, who tagged out a runner at home and preserved a 1-0 lead. The “flip play” propelled the Yankees to the ALCS, and eventually their fourth-straight World Series.

Want to time it just right? Set up a pricing alert for the ALDS event you’re eyeing, and we’ll notify you when ticket prices drop. Whether you're catching a midweek ALDS event or planning a last-minute weekend outing, alerts take the guesswork out of finding a great deal!

How to get last-minute ALDS tickets?

  • Be flexible on location and timing: Check for weekday ALDS games with lower demand. Consider upper-level seats, as they often drop the most in price.

  • Occasionally, seat numbers might look non‑sequential (e.g., even vs. odd), but SeatGeek ensures they are physically next to each other.

  • Always check the seller's notes on the listing. If there’s any exception, it will be stated there (like “split across the aisle”).

Tips before you buy ALDS tickets:

  • Confirm ticket quantity in one purchase.

  • Review the seating chart and notes on the listing page.

ALDS tickets for the 2026 season are on sale now. Grab your 2026 ALDS tickets from SeatGeek, the MLB Official Ticket Marketplace.

How long are ALDS games?

ALDS games, like most Major League Baseball (MLB) games, typically last around 2 hours and 36 minutes. This average duration has been consistent across the league since the implementation of the pitch clock in 2023, which significantly reduced game times from previous years.

While the average game lasts 2 hours and 36 minutes, actual ALDS game durations can vary. Factors such as extra innings, high-scoring games, or frequent pitching changes can extend the length of a ALDS game. Conversely, games with efficient pitching and quick innings may conclude in less time.

Planning for a 3-hour window is typically a safe bet for a ALDS game!

What happens if a ALDS game is rained out?

If a ALDS game is postponed due to weather, your SeatGeek tickets for ALDS game will be valid for the rescheduled date. If the game is canceled without rescheduling, you’ll receive a full refund. SeatGeek’s Buyer Guarantee ensures you’re covered in case of schedule changes.

Most MLB teams allow small and compact umbrellas for rainy games. However, they should not be so large as to block the view of other fans. Some fans suggest using ponchos or rain jackets as a more convenient alternative to umbrellas at baseball games, especially if the rain is heavy.

When is ALDS fan appreciation night?

Special promotional nights like Fan Appreciation Night, Bobblehead Giveaways and Fireworks Nights are some of the most popular events of the season. SeatGeek highlights these dates in ticket listings, so you can plan ahead and grab tickets for the most exciting ALDS games.

What time should I arrive to see a ALDS batting practice?

Batting practice is a great way to catch players up close at a ALDS game!

Here are some general guidelines:

  • Batting practice at a ALDS game usually starts 2 to 2.5 hours before the first pitch.

  • Stadium gates typically open 90 minutes before game time, and that’s when fans are generally allowed in.

  • To see batting practice, plan to arrive right when the gates open — especially for evening ALDS games.

Important Notes:

  • Day games (especially early afternoon) often don’t include batting practice.

  • Sunday games and "getaway days" may skip batting practice due to team travel schedules.

  • Batting practice can be canceled for weather, rest days, or other team decisions — it’s never guaranteed.

Pro tip: For the best batting practice experience, choose a weekday night game, arrive early, and head to the outfield or near the dugouts — you might catch a home run ball or even a player autograph!

How many ALDS games are left?

SeatGeek provides a full, up-to-date game schedule for ALDS right on their ticket page. Simply scroll through the schedule to view:

What are common in-stadium promotions or giveaways during regular-season ALDS games?

At ALDS home games, fans are treated to a mix of excitement and exclusive swag—though the exact offerings vary by team, stadium, and game. Here's what you're likely to encounter!

Giveaway items:

  • Wearables: Rally towels, t-shirts, hats, beanies, and blankets—perfect for cheering on the ALDS.

  • Collectibles: Look for special bobbleheads and limited-edition items tied to player milestones or anniversaries.

  • Practical gear: Stadium cushions, drawstring bags, foam fingers, postal pens, and can coolers are frequent crowd-pleasers.

In-venue promotions and experiences:

  • Pre- and in-game activations: Some teams even offer LED wristband light shows, as well as youth games, photo booths, and face-paint stations.

  • Fan contests: Many stadiums host raffles, fan-of-the-game features, and VIP experiences or field access opportunities.

Theme nights and special events:

  • The ALDS often celebrate milestone seasons, anniversaries, or holidays with themed giveaways (e.g., commemorative coins, scarves, bobblehead series) and ceremonial events like legends in attendance or mid-game inductions.
